Introducing NABE's New Web Site and Online Publications
This week, just in time for NABE 2005, we are unveiling the fully redesigned NABE web site. Please visit us at www.nabe.org to view the latest information on bilingual education research, advocacy, and NABE activities, along with our new
online job board. Listings may be posted free of charge through February 2005. Click here to email us your job openings.

We are also introducing two new publications, NABE News Online and NABE News Digest. These will be emailed periodically to all NABE members to keep you up to date on the latest developments in the field, events in Washington and state capitols, and grassroots campaigns.

If we do not have your correct email address, please click here to subscribe. Or, if you would prefer not to receive these publications, you may click here to unsubscribe.

NABE 2005 Could Be the Biggest Ever
Join us in San Antonio, January 19-22, 2005, for the 34th International Bilingual/Multicultural Education Conference. As registration approaches record levels, we now expect more than 7,000 attendees from all over the United States and several foreign countries.

NABE 2005 headliners will include Henry Cisneros, Alfie Kohn, Lily Eskelsen, Sonia Nieto, Sandra Cisneros, Stephen Krashen, Jim Cummins, Lily Wong Fillmore, Donaldo Macedo, Monty Neill, Virginia Collier, Wayne Thomas, Yvonne Freeman, David Freeman, Consuelo Kickbusch, Angela Valenzuela, Alma Flor Ada, and many more. The complete conference schedule is now online. Click here for registration and hotel information.

NABE Board Revamps Election Procedures
Recent changes in the NABE bylaws make it easier than ever to run for the NABE Executive Board. Candidates simply need to submit nomination petitions signed by five other NABE members in good standing. Each State Affiliates may also submit one nomination. There will be no limitation – numerical or geographical – on who may run for the board. Please note three other important changes:

  • In 2005, NABE members in each region – East, West, and Central – will elect Regional Representatives to the NABE Board. In 2006 and 2007, nationwide elections will be held for Members-at-Large.
  • The Parent Representative to the NABE Board will now be an advisor rather than a full voting member.
  • Nominating petitions must be received at the NABE Office within two weeks after the end of the annual conference. For the coming elections, that deadline is February 7.
