Job Openings Executive Director National Association for Bilingual Education
The Organization The National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE) is an established non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote educational equity and excellence for all students, particularly students in bilingual education programs. It is an education, policy development, advocacy, and professional association with a 20,000 combined membership nationwide and a small but growing international membership. The Association supports its membership through an annual conference, a quarterly research journal, an on-line journal and a bi-monthly news magazine. NABE partners with state bilingual associations, awards distinguished leadership recognition in the field of bilingual education, provides a policy education internship/fellowship program, and networks with special interest groups and other national educational associations with parallel goals and objectives. The Association is at the forefront of national efforts to ensure bilingualism and biculturalism for all students as we move into the future in a complex and global society. Its research inquires into both generic issues of equity and educational excellence for all children and young adults. Its research also addresses special issues such as educational methods and best practices for teaching linguistically and culturally diverse populations. In over three decades of sustained growth, the Association’s programs have been primarily funded through the annual conference and membership fees. Its structure and governance is based on the leadership of the Executive Board with the support of a committed staff of successful professionals. The NABE office is located in Washington, D. C. where policy development is transformed into advocacy at the national level.
Responsibilities of the Executive Director The Executive Director functions under the leadership and guidance of the Executive Board and will be responsible for advancing the Association’s mission, vision and goals for the future. Through interaction with its affiliates, institutes of higher education, special interest groups, administrators, teachers and parent advocacy groups, the Association reaches out to address the needs of our richly diverse communities. The Executive Director will spearhead the expansion of NABE’s presence by actively recruiting new members and supporters and network with other associations and individuals that promote and embrace cultural awareness and understanding. In addition, the Executive Director will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, supervise personnel, expand and diversify funding opportunities, and organize the annual conference. The Executive Director will also act as a liaison for the Executive Board on public relations matters.
Over the years, NABE has been a valued and reliable source of cultural information and linguistic resource to the educational and parental bilingual community. There are several million English Language Learners (ELL), Dual language and Indigenous language learners in bilingual and ESL classrooms in our country’s schools that must be served in a manner that builds upon their native language so they may successfully contribute and compete in today’s society and tomorrow's workforce.
